Welcome to Hotbed 2015
This year, Hotbed (The Cambridge New Writing Theatre Festival) celebrates Youth alongside Experience in an eclectic and daring collection of new writing for the stage.
With international work, top quality professional commissions, Guest Productions, our ‘Made in Cambridge’ series, Young Writers plays and a variety of workshops, this year’s Hotbed does truly have something for everyone…
Highlights include, the newly commissioned Pictures of You by Craig Baxter on the ‘mental imagery’, emotion and the study and treatment of bipolar disorder. The show is part of Menagerie’s What’s Up Doc? series of plays. Also featured this year is the young, talented and ever popular performance poet, Luke Wright. He will delight audiences with his stand-up gig but also make his theatre debut with his one man show: What I Leaned from Johnny Bevan. En route to Edinburgh, Dugout Theatre bring their hilarious comedy The Sunset Five - a play about a pub quiz team who stage a Las Vegas style casino heist.
Our international piece of theatre this year is from Slovakia and is called Fasbuk (performed in Slovakian with English surtitles) by the company Na Perone. The show is a mosaic of mini-stories, which invites audiences to reflect on a generation’s confessional statement about humanity.
These are just some of the highlights of the Festival to whet your appetite.
Natalia Hybsz joins us at Menagerie to help with Hotbed 2015. She will be helping out in the office and will be in charge of the One Page Play competition as well as the tea making. (We have discovered she makes a good tea!).
Some exciting collaborations are under way for Hotbed 2015. Shows include Pictures of You by Craig Baxter, a piece of theatre all the way from Slovakia called Fasbuk, a gig from the talented Luke Wright as well as his debut play What I learned From Johnny Bevan.
