We now have dates for Hotbed 2014 at Cambridge Junction: 10th – 13th July, so get them into your diary now! The festival will be on tour again as well, so watch this space for further dates and commissioning deadlines.
Well, after 15 days of the best new writing around, Hotbed 2013 has finished – but, it is definitely not over. We are working towards transferring a selection of the plays to London and to the Edinburgh Festival in 2014, so watch this space for further dates.
Congratulations to Hotbed 2012 writer Ed Harris who has just won the 2013 Sony Radio Academy Award for Best Drama! His radio play The Resistance of Mrs Brown was performed on BBC Radio 4, and starred Amanda Root as Mrs Brown, a very ordinary tea lady who serves the Nazi Administration in London.
Eleven years on from the first Hotbed, things have changed quite a bit…
This year we have once again teamed up with our long term partner, Cambridge Junction, but now we also have some new producing partners: The Colchester Mercury, Bury Theatre Royal and Soho Theatre, London.
Many favourites are still featured: our One Act plays, short works, guest productions and workshops. However, this year we are introducing a major new initiative with our What’s Up Doc? Commissions, as Thought Leaders collaborate with writers to create work on the cutting edge of contemporary ideas. From death and sleep to the moon and beyond, we explore and celebrate Thinking Through Theatre!
Tickets are now on sale at all theatres involved in this year’s Hotbed Festival.

There are two ways writers can get involved in Hotbed 2013.

1.) What’s Up Doc? Commissions

Our Young Writers Workshop has now finished. We have had a great six weeks working with some excellent young writers from the East of England. We have also been privileged to welcome some fantastic artists along to help share their expertise.
But our contact with the writers does not end here! We have commissioned each of our writers to create a short piece of work for a Christmas event, and will showcase their work at next year’s Hotbed festival.
Watch this space!
